Unveiling the Shadows: Archways complete research report for Saoirse Domestic Violence Services

Having successfully tendered for this important piece of research, Archways were pleased to contribute to a very well attended launch event at The Orchard Community Centre on Wednesday 5th June. The work was undertaken by Archways team members, Dr Sean McDonnell and Karen Costello.

This research study aims to investigate the prevalence of DVA in the community of Dublin 10, Ireland. Domestic violence and abuse are significant social issues with far-reaching consequences for individuals, families, and communities. By understanding the prevalence of these issues and how they differ across different areas, appropriate interventions and support services can be developed to address the specific needs of each community.

Saoirse Domestic Violence Services has been a leader in the area of domestic violence service provision in Dublin and West Wicklow for almost 20 years. Our services includes a 24-hour Helpline, Crisis Refuge and Safe House accommodation, community/based supports (outreach, prevention and training), court accompaniment, child and youth services, holistic therapies and counselling.

Saoirse has been instrumental in securing funding for a dedicated Domestic Violence Outreach Worker for Dublin 10 as well as supervising and facilitating this research.

Despite welcome legislative reforms the issue of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence continues to impact the lives of women across Ireland. Research such as this is exceptionally important in challenging the issue and bringing it to the forefront of the community psyche.
