The Think Big Programme, developed by Archways and funded by Kennedy Wilson through basis.point, is an innovative two-year after-school initiative aimed at 5th and 6th class students in marginalised communities. It focuses on nurturing academic, creative and sporting abilities while developing social and emotional skills like leadership and empathy. Utilises a strengths-based model focusing on enhancing students’ existing abilities rather than addressing deficiencies. It is school based, thereby reducing access barriers and incorporating teachers to foster relatable role models.
Think Big is currently being delivered at St. Laurence O’Toole’s National School in Seville Place, Dublin 1. There are ten girls from 5th and 6th Class participating in the programme. This year they have decided on a podcast as their main project, and the first episode featured Olympic Rower Philip Doyle while the second episode, just released, is with Rugby Sevens Player Jordan Conroy. This is a fantastic achievement for all those involved in the programme.
